عَفاهُ اِختِلاف العَصر بَعدَك وَالقُطر
Did a deserted campsite in lower Dhu al-Sidr stir tears,
The weeping excites a quarter of Dhi As-Sidr
effaced after you by time's changes and the rain?
Time has healed it after you and the rain

Yes; longing turned me back, and I yearned for the one
Yes, longing saddens me, so I longed for the one
I remembered—and longing comes only with remembrance.
I remembered, for yearning is only with remembrance

I swore to their lord by the Lord of the two places,
I swore by the Lord of the two places to their Lord
and by the sanctity of all between the Maqam and the Hijr:
And the sanctity of what is between the standing place and the chamber

With a breath of familiarity from your hands O Abaa Bashar

Then time will know from me affection
and goodwill upon goodwill, and gratitude upon gratitude.
And good advice over advice and gratitude over gratitude

May God water, with the clouds' voice, a land I inhabited,
May Allah water the voice of Al-Muzann the land I populated
with abundant water, and water it—the lands of Banu Nasr—
With goodness and watered its cities with the sons of Nasr
