وبَعيدٌ مُرادُنا والمَوارد

O my brother, O my brother, the hardships are manifold,

And far away are our goal and the watering places.

And far off is our goal, and resources scarce

وأمامَ العيونِ دَربٌ عسيرٌ

وأمامَ العيونِ دَربٌ عسيرٌ

لم تَسِر قَبلَنا عليهِ الأوابد

لم تَسِر قَبلَنا عليهِ الأوابد

And before our eyes lies a difficult path;

Before our eyes there lies a difficult path

No wild beasts have trodden it before us.

Untraveled before by the resolute

مُظلمٌ مُوحِشٌ كثير الأفاعي

مُظلمٌ مُوحِشٌ كثير الأفاعي

والسَّعالي المُستهوياتِ الطَرائد

والسَّعالي المُستهوياتِ الطَرائد

Dark, desolate, full of serpents

Dark and desolate, with many snakes

And she-ghouls that lure their prey.

And beasts of prey roaming the wilderness

غير أنَّ المَسيرَ لا بُدَّ منه

غير أنَّ المَسيرَ لا بُدَّ منه

إن أردنا إدراكَ بعضَ المَواعد

إن أردنا إدراكَ بعضَ المَواعد

Yet the journey must be made,

Yet we must take this journey

If we wish to see some promises fulfilled.

If we want to attain some of our hopes

فلنسر في الظلام في القفر في

فلنسر في الظلام في القفر في

الوَحشة في الوَيلِ في طريق المُجاهد

الوَحشة في الوَيلِ في طريق المُجاهد

So let us walk through darkness, through the wilderness, through

So let us march in the darkness, in the wasteland

Loneliness, through woe, along the striver's path.

In the wilds, in misery, on the path of the brave

فلنسِر اعزلَينِ إِلَّا من الحَقِّ

فلنسِر اعزلَينِ إِلَّا من الحَقِّ

سِلاحاً والفِكرُ حادٍ وقائد

سِلاحاً والفِكرُ حادٍ وقائد

So let us walk, both unarmed save for truth

Let us march, armed only with truth

As our weapon, with thought as our singing camel-driver and leader.

As weapon, and keen thought to lead and guide

واذا اشتدَّت الذئابُ عُواءً

واذا اشتدَّت الذئابُ عُواءً

فنُقابِل عُواءَها بالنَشائد

فنُقابِل عُواءَها بالنَشائد

And when the wolves' howling grows fierce,

And if wolves howl loudly around us

Then we shall answer their howling with songs.

We’ll meet their howls with songs of glory

واذا احلَولكَ الظلامُ أضأنا

واذا احلَولكَ الظلامُ أضأنا

مَشعَلَ القلبِ مثلَ نار المَواقد

مَشعَلَ القلبِ مثلَ نار المَواقد

And when the darkness grows pitch-black, we shall light

And if darkness closes in around you

The heart's torch, like fire in the hearths.

Light the torch of your heart, like fire in the watchtowers

يا اخي يا رفيقَ عَزمي وضُعفي

يا اخي يا رفيقَ عَزمي وضُعفي

سِر نكابد إنَّ الشجاعَ المُكابد

سِر نكابد إنَّ الشجاعَ المُكابد

O my brother, O companion in my resolve and my weakness,

O my brother, O strength and weakness both

Walk on; let us endure, for the brave one is the one who endures.

March on, for the valiant, though suffering, march on

فإذا ما عَييتُ تَسنُدُ ضُعفي

فإذا ما عَييتُ تَسنُدُ ضُعفي

وأنا بعد ذا لضُعفِك ساند

وأنا بعد ذا لضُعفِك ساند

And if ever I grow weary, you will support me in my weakness,

If I grow weary, your weakness will support me

And afterward I shall support you in your weakness.

And I'll support yours when you can go no further

سِر تقدَّم لكي نَخطَّ طَريقاً

سِر تقدَّم لكي نَخطَّ طَريقاً

لأباةِ الهَوانِ عِندَ الشَدائد

لأباةِ الهَوانِ عِندَ الشَدائد

Walk on, advance, so that we may mark out a path

March on, that we may blaze a trail

For those who refuse humiliation in times of hardship.

For those who refuse dishonor in adversity

يا اخي يا اخي المَصاعبُ شَتَّى

يا اخي يا اخي المَصاعبُ شَتَّى

غيرَ أنَّا في سيرِنا غيرُ واحِد

غيرَ أنَّا في سيرِنا غيرُ واحِد

O my brother, O my brother, the hardships are manifold,

O my brother, O my brother, troubles are many

Yet on our journey we are not alone.

Yet as one we march unfaltering

فلنسِر فلنسِر وإمَّا هَلَكنا

فلنسِر فلنسِر وإمَّا هَلَكنا

قبل إدراكِنا المُنى والمَواعد

قبل إدراكِنا المُنى والمَواعد

So let us walk, let us walk; and if we perish

Let us march, let us march, and if we perish

Before seeing our wishes and promises fulfilled,

Before attaining our hopes and goals

فكفانا أنَّا ابتدأنا وأنَّا

فكفانا أنَّا ابتدأنا وأنَّا

إن عَجَزنا فقد بدأنا نشاهد

إن عَجَزنا فقد بدأنا نشاهد

Then it is enough for us that we began, and that

It's enough that we began, we started out

If we fall short, we have begun to see.

And if we fail, at least we've made a start
