If a wayward man of Maʿadd utters a poem,
When an errant person from Ma’ad recites a poem,
with mange in it, its burdens settle upon me.
With which misfortunes rain down upon me,
أَيُترَكُis he left alone? قَوّالُhabitual utterer of الخَناobscenity وَيَنالُنيand assails me
أَيُترَكُ قَوّالُ الخَنا وَيَنالُني

Is the spouter of obscenity left alone, while I am assailed
Should the slanderous liar be left alone,
by hurtful words I am not one to utter?
And the repugnant words reach me, though I did not utter them?
