أبي الإسلام لا أب لي سواه

إذا افتخروا بقيس أو تميم

إذا افتخروا بقيس أو تميم

Islam is my father; I have no father but him,

My father, Islam, I have no other father but him

when they boast of Qays or Tamim.

If they boast of Qais or Tameem

دعي القوم ينصر مدعيه

دعي القوم ينصر مدعيه

فيلحقه بذي النسب الصميم

فيلحقه بذي النسب الصميم

A tribe's adopted son supports the one who claims him,

Let the people help their claimant

who then links him to one of pure lineage.

And attach him to the core lineage

وما كرم ولو شرفت جدود

وما كرم ولو شرفت جدود

ولكن التقي هو الكريم

ولكن التقي هو الكريم

And a man is not noble, even if his forebears were illustrious;

Not even ancestry brings glory, even if forefathers were noble

but the God-fearing man is the noble one.

But the pious one, he is the generous
