    وَالناهِضونَ إِذا فُرسانَها رِكِبوا

    The sons of Tamim are war's armament, as is well known,

    And those who rise when its horsemen mount;

    فِعلَ العَشائِرِ إِن هَمّوا وَإِن ضَرَبوا

    And those who take on, whenever hardship presses,

    The clans' work, whether they resolve or strike;

    And those who decide when a course of action is unclear

    Before the assemblies; in their midst, speeches are outdone.

    عِندَ الهِياجِ إِذا ما اِهتَزَّت الطُنُبُ

    And those who defend their home against enemies

    Amid battle's tumult, when the tent-ropes shake;

    And those who descended upon Kisra in his cities

    By force, with a roaring sea before those cities.

    We gather their spoils, while the horses are scattered

    Amid the dwellings, with bands of them around him.

    Shaggy, with lions upon them; they cannot be restrained,

    Amid cries raised at them, by non-Arabs or Arabs.

    Unyielding, with straightened brown spears in their hands,

    And every keen sword has grooves along its blade.

    When they bare them against enemies in a moment of alarm,

    They flash as though meteors were in their hands.
