أَلاListen! أَبلِغconvey word to لَدَيكَthere with you أَباfather of حُرَيثٍHurayth
وَعاقِبَةُand the consequences of المَلامَةِblame لِلمُليمِfor the one at fault
Listen, convey word to Abu Hurayth there with you:
Shall I not convey to you, O father of Hurayth,
And blame’s consequences fall upon the one at fault.
That the consequence of blame is for the blamer,
فَكَيفَso how تَرىdo you regard مُعاقَبَتيmy retaliation وَسَعيِيand my striving
بِأَذوادِover the camel herds of القَصيمَةِal-Qasimah وَالقَصيمِand al-Qasim
So how do you regard my retaliation and my striving
So how do you see that I should be punished and strived against
over the camel herds of al-Qasimah and al-Qasim?
With the handiworks of Qasim and Qasim,
فَنِمتُso I slept اللَيلَthe night إِذwhen أَوقَعتُI attacked فيكُمamong you
قَبائِلِtribes of عامِرٍ‘Amir وَبَنيand the sons of تَميمِTamim
So I slept through the night once I had attacked you—
I slept the night when I inflicted you
tribes of ‘Amir and sons of Tamim.
The tribes of ‘Amir and the clan of Tamim,
وَساغَand went down easily ليfor me الشَرابُthe drink وَكُنتُand I was قَبلاًpreviously
أَكادُI almost أَغُصُّchoke بِالماءِon the water الحَميمِscalding
And drink went down easily for me, though before
And drinking was pleasant for me when before
I would almost choke on scalding water.
I would almost choke on hot water.
