Welcome to spring, strutting in gladness,

breathing magic into the veils of the universe.

Welcome to the flowers, fragrant with

perfume, and to the birds swaying, intoxicated.

Welcome to the sky, with shimmering

breezes, dark-eyed, unveiling herself without bewilderment.

Welcome to the air, the water, and the

grasses, openly revealing the secrets of art.

    Welcome to beauty, love, and

dreams drifting by, and to longings following in succession.

    Welcome to life, with smiling

lips, cooing to the songbirds at dawn.

    Welcome, welcome, spring of songs!

Indeed, O spring, I have a memory of love.

    عصرت في مراشف الحب خمرا

    Everything in you, my spring, is enchantment;

you pressed wine into the lips of love.

Ah, your valley, brimming with hopes,

an interpreter of beauty and love in verse,

carrying the heart's sigh to the highest

heavens—a sigh rich in sorrow, burning hot.

And the gentle breeze revives hopes,

wafting fragrance from the flowers' smiling mouths.

And the flowers, the flowers—oh, my heart's yearning!

How sweet the flowers, furled and unfurled!

    How sweet their bending, smiling,

their hearts fluttering as they fling embers!

How sweet their prostration in the curtains of

shade, gazing out in red brocaded veils!

They are my heart's desire, calling gently:

“My lovestruck poet, beloved and most devoted,

I, O poet of life, am

love; be bold, and kiss the cheek of gold.

Poet of love, the flowers suffice; they spare

you the need for graceful women, my poet; remain free.”

Ah, my flower, I have had enough torment!

Do not stir up sorrows; the heart deserves better.

I, my flower, have tired of the life of

love—love of beauties and graceful women, all of them.

Love's sordidness has made me renounce graceful

women; because of that, the heart became a wasteland.

So I stepped stealthily, led by

doubt to where I forcibly compel love.

I came, my flower, to where I exchange

graceful women for flowers in spring's shade.

And an hour passed in which I delighted in

flowers amid heat and passion, without delay.

In that hour I would kiss the flowers at one moment,

with longing, and breathe in their fragrance at another.

It was an hour when my torment melted away

within the folds of its bliss, which endured.

I do not forget the wonders of art within it,

nor passion for the flowers and kisses in secret.
