O Saif al-Dawla—sword of the realm of God's faith—endure forever,
O Sword of the State of God's Religion, may you forever endure,
And live, despite your enemies, a life of ease.
And live, despite the enemies, a life of comfort secure.
هلdid? أذهَلَastonish الناسَthe people إلاexcept خيمةٌa tent سقَطَتfell
هل أذهَلَ الناسَ إلا خيمةٌ سقَطَت
منbecause of المكارِمِnoble deeds حتىuntil ألقتit cast down العمداthe poles
من المكارِمِ حتى ألقت العمدا
Did anything astonish the people but a tent that fell,
Did anything amaze the people but a tent that came to fall,
Overwhelmed by your noble deeds, until it cast down its poles?
From weight of noble virtues, till it cast down its pillars all?
خرَّتit fell لوجهكَbefore your face نحوtoward الأرضthe earth ساجدةًin prostration
خرَّت لوجهكَ نحو الأرض ساجدةً
كماjust as يَخِرُّfalls لوجهِbefore the face of اللَهGod مَنone who سجَداprostrated
كما يَخِرُّ لوجهِ اللَه مَن سجَدا
It fell toward the earth, prostrate before your face,
It fell before your countenance, prostrating to the sod,
As one who prostrates falls before the face of God.
Just as a worshiper falls down before the Face of God.
