وَزِيارَةٍ عَن غَيرِ مَوعِد

وَزِيارَةٍ عَن غَيرِ مَوعِد

كَالغُمضِ في الجَفنِ المُسَهَّد

كَالغُمضِ في الجَفنِ المُسَهَّد

And a visit without an appointment,

And a visit paid unpromised and unplanned,

like slumber in a sleepless eyelid.

Like the arrival of sleep in a sleepless eye,

مَعَجَت بِنا فيها الجِيا

مَعَجَت بِنا فيها الجِيا

دُ مَعَ الأَميرِ أَبي مُحَمَّد

دُ مَعَ الأَميرِ أَبي مُحَمَّد

On that visit, the fine steeds sped with us,

Wherein the coursers turned and swayed with us,

with the emir, Abu Muhammad,

In the company of the Prince, Abu Muhammad,

حَتّى دَخَلنا جَنَّةً

حَتّى دَخَلنا جَنَّةً

لَو أَنَّ ساكِنَها مُخَلَّد

لَو أَنَّ ساكِنَها مُخَلَّد

until we entered a paradise—

Until we entered into a paradise,

if only its inhabitant were immortal!

If only its inhabitant were immortal,

خَضراءَ حَمراءَ التُرا

خَضراءَ حَمراءَ التُرا

بِ كَأَنَّها في خَدِّ أَغيَد

بِ كَأَنَّها في خَدِّ أَغيَد

Green, with red soil,

Verdant in foliage, reddish in its soil,

as though it were on a graceful youth's cheek.

As though it were the cheek of a tender youth,

أَحبَبتُ تَشبيهاً لَها

أَحبَبتُ تَشبيهاً لَها

فَوَجَدتَهُ ما لَيسَ يوجَد

فَوَجَدتَهُ ما لَيسَ يوجَد

I wished for a likeness for it,

I sought a metaphor to picture it,

but found it to be something that does not exist.

But found that what I sought does not exist,

وَإِذا رَجَعتَ إِلى الحَقا

وَإِذا رَجَعتَ إِلى الحَقا

ئِقِ فَهيَ واحِدَةٌ لِأَوحَد

ئِقِ فَهيَ واحِدَةٌ لِأَوحَد

And when you return to the facts,

For if you return to the absolute truth,

it is unique, for one without equal.

It is a singular gem for a singular man.
