شممproud loftiness الأنوفof the noses لدىamong المغاربةthe Moroccans استقىdrew
شمم الأنوف لدى المغاربة استقى
شمماloftiness تتيهtake pride بهin it جبالthe mountains الأطلسof the Atlas
شمما تتيه به جبال الأطلس
The proud lift of Moroccan noses has drawn
On a loftiness in which the Atlas Mountains glory.
قومa people قبابpavilions العزof glory تضربare pitched فوقهمabove them
قوم قباب العز تضرب فوقهم
وand علىon بساطthe carpet of الجودgenerosity أكرمُthe most generous جُلَّسseated companions
و على بساط الجود أكرمُ جُلَّس
A people above whom the pavilions of glory are pitched,
And, on generosity's carpet, the most generous of companions.
منwhoever يبغseeks كسْبَto gain النورlight كيso that يزهوhe may shine بهwith it
من يبغ كسْبَ النور كي يزهو به
فوجوههمthen their faces للنورfor light أطيبthe finest مقْبَسِsource of kindling
فوجوههم للنور أطيب مقْبَسِ
Whoever seeks to gain light so he may shine with it,
Then their faces are the finest source from which to kindle light.
ركبواthey mounted العلاthe heights وand الفضلvirtue سادتهits masters هموthey
ركبوا العلا و الفضل سادته همو
بارَوْاthey vied فبزّواand so they outstripped فيin صفاءpurity of الأنفسsouls
بارَوْا فبزّوا في صفاء الأنفس
They mounted the heights, and virtue's masters are they.
They vied and prevailed in purity of soul.
