تحتها يهذي مدى أيامِهِ

O you, drowning in your illusions,

O you who is drowned in his delusions

raving beneath them throughout your days,

Under which he raves the days of his life

قم ودع وهْمك يمضي واحْسُ إنْ

عَلَّكَ الحاضِرُ ما في جامِه

عَلَّكَ الحاضِرُ ما في جامِه

rise, let your illusion pass, and sip if

Arise, leave your delusion to pass and feel that

the present gives you another draught of what is in its goblet.

Perhaps what is present is not in his cup

حبذا الواقعُ من أفراحه

حبذا الواقعُ من أفراحه

نحتسي طورا ومن آلامه

نحتسي طورا ومن آلامه

How welcome reality is! From its joys

How good is reality with its joys

we sip at times, and from its pains.

We take sips from it and from its sorrows

لن يفيد المرء يبكي هلعا

لن يفيد المرء يبكي هلعا

أن رأى العالم في أسقامه

أن رأى العالم في أسقامه

It will not help a person to weep in panic

Crying desperately will not benefit a man

at seeing the world amid its ailments.

If he saw the world in its illnesses

أنخاف الليل من أشباحه

أنخاف الليل من أشباحه

و نشيح الطرف عن أحلامه ؟

و نشيح الطرف عن أحلامه ؟

Do we fear the night because of its ghosts,

Do I fear the night from its ghosts

and turn our gaze away from its dreams?

And the wailing of my eyes from its dreams?

و لبوم نحن نصغي جيدا

و لبوم نحن نصغي جيدا

لا لطير ذاب في أنغامه ؟

لا لطير ذاب في أنغامه ؟

And do we listen closely to owls,

And do we hoot while we listen closely

not to a bird dissolved in its melodies?

Not to a bird that melted in its melodies?

We have grown so used to the heat that we

We are used to the heat so much that

pay no heed to the morning amid its breezes.

We do not care for the morning in its breeze

فدع العالم لا تشقى به

ليس يشفى بك من أورامه

So leave the world alone; do not suffer over it:

So leave the world be, do not torment yourself with it

it will not be cured of its tumors by you.

You cannot heal it from its tumors with your crying
