1. عبس الزمان وقد أتى

    متبسما بعد العبوس

    Time frowned, yet it has come

    smiling after its frown.

  2. لا تعتبوه فإن من

    حسناته يوم الخميس

    Do not reproach it, for among

    its good deeds is Thursday.

  3. فشهدت بعد غروبه

    قمراً يجل عن الشموس

    For after its sunset I beheld

    a moon exalted above the suns.

  4. وأشار لي بعد التحي

    ة بالتحدث والجلوس

    And he beckoned me, after the greet-

    ing, to converse and sit.

  5. فسكوت وجداً من أحا

    ديث تدار بلا كؤوس

    Then silence, in rapture, at sto-

    ries passed around without cups.

  6. هل يدري بدر التم أ

    ن أخاه في الدنيا جليسي
