The captive of your love hopes for no release,
I'm captivated by your love, hoping for no release
Nor does he relish wine after your dusky lips.
And taking no joy after being with you

أيحسن أن يقول الناس باحا
And the delay has dragged on—if only I knew:
It's been so long, I wonder
Would it be fitting for people to say, "He has revealed his secret"?
If it's proper for people to whisper
وماand not سلّمتyou greeted مذsince حرّمتyou forbade وصليunion with me

فكيف تحرم النظر المباحا
And you have not greeted me since you forbade union with me;
Since I denied our union, I've surrendered nothing
So how can you forbid the lawful gaze?
So how can you deny these permitted glances?

بكسر جفونه مزج المزاحا
I would give my soul for a dusky one with languid glances,
With my weary spirit I pine
Who mingled teasing with the droop of his eyelids.
Breaking his eyelids mixes jest and earnest

Raging in my heart with passion
And their drooping riddles my heart with wounds.
