  1. ولما أداروا عنده ذكر سيرتي

    وفرط غرامي في الهوى ودوامه

    And when they brought up my story in his presence,

    And the intensity of my passion in love, and its persistence,

  2. أقرّ ولم ينكر وقال مورياً

    صدقتم بعيني قد رأيت سقامه

    He acknowledged it, did not deny it, and said with a double meaning:

    “You have spoken truly: with my own eyes I have seen his sickness.”
