لا تعجبوا لتطربشي وتقلبقي

لا تعجبوا لتطربشي وتقلبقي

وتقلبي وتذبذبي في ملبسي

وتقلبي وتذبذبي في ملبسي

Do not marvel at my wearing a tarboosh and a kalpak,

Do not be surprised at my restlessness and agitation,

And at my changing and wavering in my attire;

My tossing and turning in my clothes,

فاللّه يعلم أنني في حبها

فاللّه يعلم أنني في حبها

بسوى الشباب وبرده لم أكتس

بسوى الشباب وبرده لم أكتس

For God knows that, in my love for her,

For God knows that in her love,

I have clothed myself in nothing but youth and its cloak.

Other than youthfulness, I am not dressed in tranquility.
