The path of judgeship—no, rather the path of Hell—

The path of fate, nay the path of hell,

I took, and through it the sweetness of my life turned bitter.

I rode till my life became bitter,

أمان بها دنياي ضاعت ولم تُنل

أمان بها دنياي ضاعت ولم تُنل

على أنني ان نلتها ضاعت الأخرى

على أنني ان نلتها ضاعت الأخرى

Mercy! Through it my worldly life was lost and never gained;

My worldly desires were lost, never attained,

yet, if I gained it, the other life would be lost.

Yet had I attained them the next life would be lost.
