ولي نفس حر لا منى تستفزها

ولي نفس حر لا منى تستفزها

ولا مطمع نحو الهوان يديرها

ولا مطمع نحو الهوان يديرها

And I have a free man's soul, stirred by no wishes;

I have a soul free, no wish provokes it

Nor does any enticement turn it toward humiliation.

No greed towards disgrace turns it

متى استكبرت تصغر وان هي صغر

متى استكبرت تصغر وان هي صغر

ت تساوى لديها عبدها وأميرها

ت تساوى لديها عبدها وأميرها

Whenever it grows proud, it grows small; and if it humbles itself,

When it feels big, it becomes small and if it feels small

Its slave and its prince are equal in its eyes.

To it, its slave equals its prince

إذا لمستها كف عز تطامت

إذا لمستها كف عز تطامت

وان لحظتها عين هون تطيرها

وان لحظتها عين هون تطيرها

If the hand of honor touches it, it bows low;

If the palm of glory touches it, it rises

And if an eye of contempt glances at it, it sends it soaring.

And if the eye of disgrace notices it, it takes flight
