يجري مع الروح مجرى الروح في البدن
Clouds, dew, a lovely meadow, and love
Flowing with the soul as the soul flows through the body.
غنتsang بهاin it الطيرthe birds ألحاناًmelodies وساعدهاand accompanied them
غنت بها الطير ألحاناً وساعدها
رقصthe dancing الغصونthe branches علىto إيقاعهاtheir rhythm الحسنbeautiful
رقص الغصون على إيقاعها الحسن
The birds sang melodies there, and were accompanied
By the branches’ dance to their beautiful rhythm.
لقدindeed سكرناwe grew drunk وماthough not الصهباءthe tawny wine دائرةbeing passed around
لقد سكرنا وما الصهباء دائرة
فيهاin it ولاnor نغماتnotes العودthe oud فيin اذنan ear
فيها ولا نغمات العود في اذن
Indeed, we grew drunk, though no tawny wine was passed around
In it, nor did the oud’s notes reach an ear.
