دُيونُكَ لا يُقضى الزَمانَ غَريمُها

دُيونُكَ لا يُقضى الزَمانَ غَريمُها

وَبُخلُكَ بُخلُ الباهِليِّ سَعيدِ

وَبُخلُكَ بُخلُ الباهِليِّ سَعيدِ

Your debts leave their creditor unpaid forever;

Your debts are not repaid, time is their creditor

and your stinginess is that of Saʿid al-Bahili.

And your stinginess is the stinginess of the wretched Sa'id

سَعيدُ بنُ سَلمٍ أَلأَمُ الناسِ كُلِّهِم

سَعيدُ بنُ سَلمٍ أَلأَمُ الناسِ كُلِّهِم

وَما قَومُهُ مِن لُؤمِهِ بِبَعيدِ

وَما قَومُهُ مِن لُؤمِهِ بِبَعيدِ

Saʿid ibn Salm is the basest of all people,

Sa'id ibn Salam, most wretched of all people

and his people are not far from him in baseness.

And his people are not far from his vileness

يَزيدُ لَهُ فَضلٌ وَلَكِنَّ مَزيَداً

يَزيدُ لَهُ فَضلٌ وَلَكِنَّ مَزيَداً

تَدارَكَ أَقصى مَجدِهِ بِيَزيدِ

تَدارَكَ أَقصى مَجدِهِ بِيَزيدِ

Yazid has merit, and yet Mazyad

Increase comes to him but then an increase

attained the height of his glory through Yazid.

Cut short the height of his glory through Yazid

خُزَيمَةُ لا بَأسٌ بِهِ غَيرَ أَنَّهُ

خُزَيمَةُ لا بَأسٌ بِهِ غَيرَ أَنَّهُ

لِمَطبَخِهِ قُفلٌ وَبابُ حَديدِ

لِمَطبَخِهِ قُفلٌ وَبابُ حَديدِ

Khuzayma has no fault, except that

Khuzaymah, no harm in him except that

his kitchen has a lock and an iron door.

For his kitchen there is a lock and door of iron
