وَكَم مِن مُعِدٍّ في الضَميرِ لِيَ الأَذى

وَكَم مِن مُعِدٍّ في الضَميرِ لِيَ الأَذى

رَآني فَأَلقى الرُعبُ ما كانَ أَضمَرا

رَآني فَأَلقى الرُعبُ ما كانَ أَضمَرا

And many a man preparing harm for me in his heart

Saw me, and terror drove out what he had harbored.

هَداهُ لِقَصدِ الحِلمِ جَهلٌ جَهَلتُهُ

هَداهُ لِقَصدِ الحِلمِ جَهلٌ جَهَلتُهُ

عَلَيهِ وَلَو حالَمتُهُ لَتَجَبَّرا

عَلَيهِ وَلَو حالَمتُهُ لَتَجَبَّرا

He was led to the path of forbearance by the harshness I showed

Toward him; but had I been forbearing with him, he would have grown overbearing.
