عِنَبُ الشِّفاهِ، وصارَ كَـرْمًا مِن لمَى
My girl returned, now grown, and ripe grew
She returned, now grown, my little girl
the grapes of her lips, becoming a vineyard of dusky hue.
Her lips ripe as grapes, her figure a date palm.

تبقى التي بالأمسِ مِنها قدْ هَمَى
And my little one, however high her beauty rises,
No matter how my little one's beauty grows,
remains the one from whom, yesterday, poured
She stays the one whose loss I lamented before.

حتَّىuntil التقيناwe met... والوَدَاعُand farewell تَكلّماspoke
حتَّى التقينا... والوَدَاعُ تَكلّما
my heart upon the face of love, in silence,
My heart was silent about the face of love
until we met... and farewell spoke.
Until we met again...and farewell spoke.
