A playful woman, swaying in her coquetry,

Perfect in beauty, her qualities more perfect still.

O dwelling of an eye—and eyes are homes—

Within each eyelid of yours is a glance that kills.

Before I met you, I was lost,

Like a stranger, I would lodge in every heart.

Brimming with beauty, a dusky-lipped virgin,

Dark-eyed, she rains down like hail in longing.

And I, the drowning one, stretch my palm toward love,

So love returns it as five that answer and ask:

How many a slain man rejoiced, in death,

That he was wandering from limb to limb?

My homeland is your heart; the eyes are my city.

And the breast is a door, the fingers a home.

From the profusion of the cheek's roses, its fragrance overflowed,

Until a mole stood alone on the cheek, blushing.

And I, the carefree one—O beloved, have mercy

On a generous heart, miserly in reproaching you.
