ليلٌ طويلٌ في انتظاركِ ينقَضيْ
لوif كانَit were عُمْرًاa lifetime مِنْof خَيالٍimagination لانقَضىit would have ended
لو كانَ عُمْرًا مِنْ خَيالٍ لانقَضى
A long night passes as I wait for you.
Had it been a lifetime of imagination, it would have ended.
أرخىlet fall ظِلالَthe shadows الوقتِof time فوقَover تخيُّليْmy imagination
أرخى ظِلالَ الوقتِ فوقَ تخيُّليْ
والهمُّand worry بَرقٌlightning فيin سَوادٍdarkness أومَضاflashed
والهمُّ بَرقٌ في سَوادٍ أومَضا
It let the shadows of time fall over my imagination.
And worry is lightning that flashed in darkness.
تَعِبَgrew weary الذيthe one who أحصىcounted الثوانيthe seconds بالحَصىwith pebbles
تَعِبَ الذي أحصى الثواني بالحَصى
حتَّىuntil أشاحَturned away الرَّملُthe sand عنهُfrom him وأعْرَضاand turned aside
حتَّى أشاحَ الرَّملُ عنهُ وأعْرَضا
He who counted the seconds with pebbles grew weary.
Until the sand turned away from him and shunned him.
