1. طوف العقل بدنيا العلل

    قاده التوحيد شطر المنزل

    Reason roamed the world of causes;

    faith in God's oneness led it toward its destination.

  2. أعوز المنزل هذا السابلا

    زورق الفكر أضل الساحلا

    The destination eluded this wayfarer;

    thought's skiff could not find the shore.

  3. في أتى الرحمن عبدا مضمر

    رمز توحيد لقلب يبصر

    In “he came to the All-Merciful as a servant” lies hidden

    a sign of divine unity for a heart that sees.

  4. يبتلى التوحيد فيك العملا

    فيجلى لك سرا أغفلا

    Faith in God's oneness puts your deeds to the test,

    and reveals to you an overlooked secret.

  5. يشرق الدين به والحكمة

    ويرى الأيد به والبكنة

    Through it, religion and wisdom shine,

    and through it, strength and ability are revealed.

  6. قد تجلى حيرة للعالمين

    وتجلى عملا في العاشقين

    It has appeared as bewilderment to the learned,

    and as action in lovers.

  7. يرتقى في ظله المتضع

    ويصير الترب تبرا يسطع

    The lowly rise beneath its shade,

    and dust becomes gleaming gold.

  8. يحتبى التوحيد عبدا ثابرا

    فيرد العبد خلقا آخرا

    Faith in God's oneness enfolds a steadfast servant,

    and turns the servant into another being.

  9. فهو في الحق حثيث دائب

    دمه كالبرق فيه لاهب

    So he is eager and tireless in the cause of Truth;

    his blood blazes within him like lightning.

  10. ريبه يفنى ويحيا العمل

    عينه في الكون يقظى تعمل

    His doubt perishes, and action comes alive;

    his eye is wakeful and active in the universe.

  11. في مقام العبد إن تثبت قدم

    جرة السائل تصبح جام جم

    If a foot stands firm in the station of servanthood,

    the beggar's jar becomes Jam's cup.

  12. لا إلاه الروح في أمتنا

    لا إلاه اللحن في نغمتنا

    “There is no god” is the spirit of our community;

    “There is no god” is the melody in our song;

  13. لا إلاه السر في أسرارنا

    لا إلاه السمط من أفكاره

    “There is no god” is the secret among our secrets;

    “There is no god” is the pearl-strand of his thoughts.

  14. صار قلبا إن حواها حجر

    كل قلب لم تنره مدر

    A stone becomes a heart if it holds it;

    every heart it has not illumined is clay.

  15. يتلظى الكون من زفرتها

    ويضئ القلب من وقدتها

    The universe blazes from its sigh,

    and the heart shines from its flame.

  16. وتسيل القلب ماء في الصدور

    تصهر المرآة منه في الحرور

    And it melts the heart to water within the breasts,

    smelting a mirror from it in the scorching heat.

  17. شعلة في روحنا مثل الشقيق

    كل ما نمتاره منها الحريق

    A flame in our spirit, like the anemone—

    all we draw from it as sustenance is fire.

  18. بيض التوحيد مسود البشر

    فأبو بكر أخوه وعمر

    Faith in God's oneness made the black-skinned man white;

    so Abu Bakr is his brother, and Umar too.

  19. ليس إلا القلب قرب وابتعاد

    وهذه الكأس بها هاج الفؤاد

    Nearness and distance are matters of the heart alone,

    and through this cup the heart was stirred.

  20. وحدة القلب قوام الأمة

    أشرقت سيناء من ذي الجلوة

    Unity of heart is the mainstay of the community;

    Sinai shone through this unveiling.

  21. قد هدى الأمة سبل العمل

    هذه الفكر بها والأمل

    It has guided the community along the paths of action;

    in it lie these thoughts and hope.

  22. نزعة واحدة في قلبها

    فعيار الحسن والقبح بها

    One aspiration lives in its heart;

    by it, then, beauty and ugliness are measured.

  23. لا يجيد الفكر في قيثاره

    دون نار الحق في أوتاره

    Thought cannot excel upon its lyre

    without the fire of Truth within its strings.

  24. نحن في الإسلام أبناء الخليل

    من أبيكم خذ إذا شئت الدليل

    In Islam we are children of Abraham, God's Friend;

    take the proof from your father, if you wish.

  25. أمم قد عبدت أوطانها

    وبنت من نسب بنيانها

    Nations have worshipped their homelands,

    and built their edifice out of lineage.

  26. أترى الأوطان أصل الأمم

    تعبد الأرض بها كالصنم

    Do you regard homelands as the root of nations,

    where the earth is worshipped like an idol?

  27. إنما الأنساب فخره السفهاء

    حكمها في الجسم والجسم هباء

    Lineages are only the pride of fools;

    their sway lies in the body, and the body is dust.

  28. ضمنا في الحق أس آخر

    هو في الألباب منا مضمر

    Another foundation has united us in Truth;

    it is concealed within our minds.

  29. قد خلصنا من حدود وقيود

    قلبنا في الغيب إذ نحن شهود

    It has freed us from boundaries and fetters;

    our heart is in the unseen, while we are visible.

  30. ضمنا كالزهر نظم مضمر

    بصر ليس يراه مبصر

    A hidden order binds us together like flowers—

    a vision no beholder sees.

  31. وحد الرئى لنا والفكرة

    كسهام جمعتها جعبة

    It has united our outlook and thought,

    like arrows gathered by a quiver.

  32. نحن فكر وخيال واحد

    ورجاء ومآل واحد

    We are one thought and one imagination,

    and one hope and one destiny.

  33. نحن من نعمائه حلف إخاء

    قلبنا والروح واللفظ سواء

    Through His blessings, we form a bond of brotherhood;

    our heart, spirit, and speech are one.
