وحق حكيم كون الخلق كلهم

وحق حكيم كون الخلق كلهم

وخير منهم بالمحبة احمدا

وخير منهم بالمحبة احمدا

And by the sanctity of the Wise One who brought all creation into being,

It is the right of the Wise to create all people,

and singled out Ahmad among them for love;

And the best of them in love is Ahmad.

وحق حبيب قدم اللَه نوره

وحق حبيب قدم اللَه نوره

على الخلق كونا وهو اوّل ما بدا

على الخلق كونا وهو اوّل ما بدا

and by the sanctity of the beloved whose light God made precede

It is the right of the Beloved to bring forth His light

creation in existence—it was the first to appear;

Onto creation as the first to come into being.

حق ولي قوم الدين عدله

حق ولي قوم الدين عدله

وصار لنا عند التعثر مسندا

وصار لنا عند التعثر مسندا

by the sanctity of the saint whose justice set religion upright,

It is the right of the Master of Religion to be just,

and who became our support when we stumbled:

And for us at times of stumbling, a support.

عن اللهو طبعي فطرة متنفر

عن اللهو طبعي فطرة متنفر

خلقت بتوفيق الصلاح مؤيدا

خلقت بتوفيق الصلاح مؤيدا

my nature is innately averse to frivolity;

My nature is inherently averse to vain pastimes -

I was created sustained by divine aid toward righteousness.

Created with success in piety as an ally.

من البدء ما عودت نفسي بمفسد

من البدء ما عودت نفسي بمفسد

لكل امرء من دهره ما تعودا

لكل امرء من دهره ما تعودا

From the beginning, I have not accustomed my soul to anything corrupting;

From the beginning, I did not accustom my soul to corruption -

each person receives from his lifetime what he has grown accustomed to.

To each person belongs what they become used to in their lifetime.

فوادي الى ذوق الحقيقة مايل

فوادي الى ذوق الحقيقة مايل

وليس باعلال المجاز مقيدا

وليس باعلال المجاز مقيدا

My heart inclines toward tasting truth,

So my passion is inclined to the taste of Truth,

and is not bound by the infirmities of metaphor.

Not bound by rhetorical flourish.
