ماnot نَظَرَتْsaw عَيْنَايَmy two eyes كالأَهْجَرِlike al-Ahjar
ما نَظَرَتْ عَيْنَايَ كالأَهْجَرِ
كَثْرَةَabundance of ماءٍwater فيin بَهاءِsplendor of مَنْظَرِa view
كَثْرَةَ ماءٍ في بَهاءِ مَنْظَرِ
Never have my eyes beheld the like of al-Ahjar,
My eyes have never seen the like of al-Ahjar,
with its wealth of water and the splendor of its vistas:
With abundant water amid a splendid view,
مُلَوَّناًmulticolored أَبيضَwhite فيamid أَسْوَدٍblack
مُلَوَّناً أَبيضَ في أَسْوَدٍ
فيamid أحْمَرٍred فيamid أَخْضَرٍgreen أصْفَرِyellow
في أحْمَرٍ في أَخْضَرٍ أصْفَرِ
variegated—white against black,
Multicolored: white amid black,
red, green, and yellow.
Amid red, amid green and yellow.
تسْعُونَninety نهراًrivers بعدَهاafter them تِسْعَةٌnine
تسْعُونَ نهراً بعدَها تِسْعَةٌ
تجريflow بهthrough it فيin خَبَرِthe account of الْمُخْبرِthe informant
تجري به في خَبَرِ الْمُخْبرِ
Ninety rivers, then nine more,
Ninety rivers, with nine more after them,
flow through it, as the teller’s account relates.
