This night has indeed grown long after parting from him;

This night has lingered long after their leave

yet I remember it being short before the parting.

Though brief my time with them before they went

وكيف أرجِّ الصُّبحَ بعدهُمُ وقد

تولَّت شموسٌ منهمُ وَبُدورُ

And how can I hope for dawn after them, when

How can I hope for dawn after their loss

suns and full moons from among them have departed?

When from their midst have set such radiant suns
