So if the generosity of your hands has drained
If you find eyes once generous are now downcast,
Springs, and eyes have overflowed with tears,
And eyes once tearless are now flowing with tears,
وخانتكُمُand betrayed you والدهرُwhile time يُرجَىis looked to with hope ويُتَّقَىand is feared

حوادِثُ أيامٍ تفِى وتَخُونُ
And you have been betrayed—time inspires both hope and fear—
Though time itself has betrayed you, as oft it betrays,
By the events of days that keep faith and betray,
Through the caprice of days which disappoint and deceive,

Then do not despair: time’s vicissitudes
Despair not, for time's very nature is change,
And its happenings, like conversation, have many branches.
And its events are much like tales told to make men weep.
