أأنتَare you أمِor الشّمسُthe sun المنيرةُradiant أملَحُlovelier
أأنتَ أمِ الشّمسُ المنيرةُ أملَحُ
My gaze was indeed unsure, while the riding camels leaned:
My eyes doubted and the pillars trembled,
Are you lovelier, or is the radiant sun?
Are you the radiant sun or the rising moon?

The jujube’s fruit, upon his cheek’s broad surface, keeps
The buds of eglantine remain still on his cheek,
wiping the fresh narcissus’s water from the rose.
Wiping off the dew of the pink narcissus flower.

So, O poet who has composed a thousand poems,
O poet who has composed a thousand poems,
yet they never leave his house—
Yet they do not leave his abode.

Congratulations, you were not congratulated,
journey by night with the star, or roam with the wind.
That my poems flow with the star or roam with the wind.
