Trust in God, whose majesty is immense,

And entrust the matter to Him; you will be safe and prosper.

And do not behold causes; abandon beholding them,

For whoever beholds causes will surely regret it.

And whoever beholds causes has his insight impaired,

Seeing what neither exists nor is established,

Like an afflicted eye that may see what is not there,

And what does not exist, through sheer delusion.

And behold, O brother of discernment, their Maker, who

Is all-holy; you will know the truth of my words and understand.

Were not the causes created by Him?

And is there a creator besides the All-Knowing, the Exalted?

    فَلا مثلَ مَوجود بِوَهمٍ وَمزعَمِ

    He is unique in deeds and attributes, as in His essence;

So no equal exists, even in imagination or supposition.

Wise in what He has willed, He rules by His decree,

Through withholding and giving, hardship and blessings.

And He is not answerable—is there anyone to question Him?

Exalted is He! Is not God, my Lord, the wisest?

And be, O companion of reason, content at all times

With what God, my Lord, has willed concerning you—and submit.

    وَإِن كانَ في ضُرٍّ فَلا تَتَبرَّمِ

    So if the Master touches you with good, be sure to thank Him;

And if it is affliction, do not complain.

For how often has joy followed adversity, young man!

And how often has prosperity come after misery to one in want!

And how often have blessings come after patience to one who endures!

And how often has ease come after hardship, bringing gain!

And God's kindness—exalted be His majesty—has never ceased

To surround him at every time and season.

And may the God of the Throne, my Lord, send blessings and peace

Upon the best of God's messengers, Taha the exalted,

And his family and companions, for all time and all worlds,

And as long as birds reveal the beauty of their song.
