يَلومونَنيThey blame me أَنّيthat I أُحِبّlove عِذارَهُhis cheek-down
يَلومونَني أَنّي أُحِبّ عِذارَهُ
وَأَنّيand that I بِهِthrough him أُبديI display فُنونَforms جُنونيmy madness
وَأَنّي بِهِ أُبدي فُنونَ جُنوني
They blame me for loving his cheek-down,
They blame me for loving his excuses
And for displaying, through him, the many forms of my madness.
And for showing in them my madness arts
فَقُلتُso I said لَهُمto them كفّواdesist فَإِنّfor indeed عِذارَهُhis cheek-down
فَقُلتُ لَهُم كفّوا فَإِنّ عِذارَهُ
وَعَنكُمand from you فَلاso not يخفىis hidden سَوادُthe blackness عُيونيof my eyes
وَعَنكُم فَلا يخفى سَوادُ عُيوني
So I told them, 'Desist! For his cheek-down—
So I said enough! His excuses
and this is no secret to you—is the blackness of my eyes.'
And you cannot see beyond the darkness in my eyes
