جَرى ماءُ النّعيمِ عَلى سَعيرٍ

بِجَنَّةِ خَدِّهِ فبَدا البَهاءُ

بِجَنَّةِ خَدِّهِ فبَدا البَهاءُ

The water of bliss flowed over a blaze

The water of bliss flowed over hellfire

In the paradise of his cheek, and splendor shone forth.

With the paradise of his cheek, radiance appeared

فَقُلتُ لَهُ اِسقِني مِنهُ فَنادى

فَقُلتُ لَهُ اِسقِني مِنهُ فَنادى

وَهَل في النارِ لِلظَمآنِ ماءُ

وَهَل في النارِ لِلظَمآنِ ماءُ

So I said to him, “Give me some of it to drink,” and he called out:

So I said: “Give me some of it” but he exclaimed:

“And is there water in the fire for the thirsty?”

“Is there any water in hell for the thirsty?”
