مِنهاfrom her النّزولُthe descent لِأَجلِfor the sake of قبلةِa kiss رِجلِهِhis foot
The midmorning sun, when it proved impossible in the ordinary course
For her to descend to kiss his foot,
بَسَطَتshe spread لَهُfor him فَوقَover التّرابِthe dust شُعاعهاher radiance
لِيَدوسَهso that he might tread on it عَنin place of خَدّهاher cheek فيin نَعلِهِhis sandal
Spread her radiance for him over the dust,
So he might tread on it in his sandal, in place of her cheek.
