تَبَدّىappeared العذارُthe cheek-down فَقالَthen he said الحَبيبُthe beloved
تَبَدّى العذارُ فَقالَ الحَبيبُ
وَقَدand indeed شامَنيhe saw me فيهِwith him قَدalready همتُI was lovestruck عِشقاin love
وَقَد شامَني فيهِ قَد همتُ عِشقا
The cheek-down appeared, and the beloved said,
The charm appeared and the lover said
having seen me lost in love with him:
And it intoxicated me, so I intended love
وُرودُroses خُدودِيَmy cheeks مِنfrom غَيرِwithout عِرقa root
وُرودُ خُدودِيَ مِن غَيرِ عِرق
فَصارَso it became عِذاريmy cheek-down لِلوَردِfor the roses عرقاa root
فَصارَ عِذاري لِلوَردِ عرقا
“The roses of my cheeks were without a root,
The roses on my cheeks without sweat
so my cheek-down became a root for the roses.”
So my charm became sweat for the roses
