فَرامَ يَصطادهُ في نَبلِ مُقلتِهِ

The beloved saw a musk gazelle appear before him.

So he sought to hunt it with the arrows of his eye.

مُذْ فَرَّ مِنهُ وَجَدَّ السعيَ أَلجَأَه

فَراحَ يَضرِبُهُ في مِسك سرَّتهِ

So he took to striking it with his perfumed robe

فَأَدرك المِسكُ خَدَّ الحِبِّ حَلَّ بِهِ

حَتّى اِستَحالَ عِذاراً فَوقَ وَجنَتِهِ

حَتّى اِستَحالَ عِذاراً فَوقَ وَجنَتِهِ

Then the musk reached the beloved's cheek and settled upon it,

Thus the musk reached the cheek of the loved one and clung to it

Until it became a line of beard upon his cheek.

Until it transformed to coquetry above his cheeks
