عَلَيكَyou should turn بِالقَهوَةِto coffee السّوداءِblack تَشرَبُهاyou drink it
عَلَيكَ بِالقَهوَةِ السّوداءِ تَشرَبُها
وَدَعand leave لِرَشفِfor the sipping of الطّلىthe throats (literally, necks) مَولودَةthe daughter of العِنَبِgrapes
وَدَع لِرَشفِ الطّلى مَولودَة العِنَبِ
Take to black coffee and drink it;
Take to black coffee and drink it.
forgo sipping wine, the grape’s own offspring.
And leave the daughter of grapes for throats to sip.
كَمhow many غابَbecame absent عَنfrom عَقلِهِhis reason بِالخَمرِthrough wine شارِبهاits drinker
كَم غابَ عَن عَقلِهِ بِالخَمرِ شارِبها
وَشارِبُand the drinker of القَهوَةِcoffee السّوداءِblack لَمdid not يَغِبِlose awareness
وَشارِبُ القَهوَةِ السّوداءِ لَم يَغِبِ
How often, through wine, its drinker has lost his reason,
How many a wine-drinker has lost his reason through wine!
while the drinker of black coffee has never lost his.
Yet the drinker of black coffee has not lost his reason.
