الحَمدُ للَّهِ مولي الخَيرِ والنِّعمِ

الحَمدُ للَّهِ مولي الخَيرِ والنِّعمِ

ومُذهبِ الشّرِّ والضرّاء والنِّقمِ

ومُذهبِ الشّرِّ والضرّاء والنِّقمِ

Praise be to God, bestower of goodness and blessings,

Praise be to Allah, Lord of bounty and favors

And dispeller of evil, adversity, and calamities.

Who takes away harm, distress, and vengeance

سُبحانَه مِن إِلَهٍ لا شريكَ له

سُبحانَه مِن إِلَهٍ لا شريكَ له

أجرى الأمورَ بما في العِلم بالحِكَمِ

أجرى الأمورَ بما في العِلم بالحِكَمِ

Glory be to Him—a God with no partner.

Glorified is He, the God without partner

He made affairs unfold according to His knowledge, with wisdom.

Who ordains all matters with wisdom and purpose

كما حادثٍ قد رآه الناسُ يهلكهُم

كما حادثٍ قد رآه الناسُ يهلكهُم

وَآلَ مِن لُطفِهِ فيهِم إِلى العدَمِ

وَآلَ مِن لُطفِهِ فيهِم إِلى العدَمِ

How many a calamity people had thought would destroy them,

As people witness calamities that destroy them

Yet through His kindness toward them, it came to nothing.

Yet find His kindness persists despite their faults

اُنظُر طرابلُسَ الشّام الّتي حُصِرت

اُنظُر طرابلُسَ الشّام الّتي حُصِرت

فَعَمَّها اللُّطفُ عندَ الحادِث العَممِ

فَعَمَّها اللُّطفُ عندَ الحادِث العَممِ

Look at Tripoli of al-Sham, which was besieged:

See Tripoli of Syria that was under siege

Grace embraced her amid the all-engulfing calamity.

But was enveloped in mercy amidst the crisis

أَتى إِلَيها الوزيرُ العَظمُ يهلكُها

أَتى إِلَيها الوزيرُ العَظمُ يهلكُها

في عَسكَرٍ ماجَ مثلَ البحرِ في العظَمِ

في عَسكَرٍ ماجَ مثلَ البحرِ في العظَمِ

The minister al-Azm came to her, intent on destroying her,

The Grand Vizier came to decimate it

With an army surging like the sea in its vastness.

With an army swarming like the vast sea

فَحَطَّ ما حَولَها يَبغي مُحاصَرةً

فَحَطَّ ما حَولَها يَبغي مُحاصَرةً

إِنْ لَم يمكِّن بمشتقٍّ منَ الظُّلَمِ

إِنْ لَم يمكِّن بمشتقٍّ منَ الظُّلَمِ

So he encamped all around her, seeking to besiege her,

He surrounded it, intending to lay siege

If he could not gain mastery through an offshoot of darkness.

Unless it surrendered to the cruel darkness

هَلّا دَرى أَنّ ليثَ الغابِ يَمنعُه

هَلّا دَرى أَنّ ليثَ الغابِ يَمنعُه

مَنعَ الغَيورِ لِمَن يجني عَنِ الحُرَمِ

مَنعَ الغَيورِ لِمَن يجني عَنِ الحُرَمِ

Did he not know that the lion of the thicket would stop him,

If only he knew the lion of the jungle defends it

As a jealous guardian bars a wrongdoer from his womenfolk?

With a guardian's zeal for the protected sanctum

الضّيغَمُ البطَلِ الجَزّارِ مَلجؤُها

الضّيغَمُ البطَلِ الجَزّارِ مَلجؤُها

رَبُّ المُروءَةِ والأَخلاقِ والشيَمِ

رَبُّ المُروءَةِ والأَخلاقِ والشيَمِ

The lion, the hero al-Jazzar, is her refuge,

The place of the brave hero butcher its refuge

A master of manly virtue, good character, and noble traits.

Lord of chivalry, morals, and pride its pillar

وَمَن لَهُ البيضُ في نَحرِ العِدا قَلمٌ

وَمَن لَهُ البيضُ في نَحرِ العِدا قَلمٌ

تَخطّ مِن غَير حِبرٍ أَسطُراً بدمِ

تَخطّ مِن غَير حِبرٍ أَسطُراً بدمِ

And he whose bright swords are a pen at his foes' throats,

With a blade that etches lines in the necks of foes

Tracing lines, without ink, in blood.

Without ink, writing verses in blood

أَغاثَها بِجُيوشٍ لا مِثالَ لَها

أَغاثَها بِجُيوشٍ لا مِثالَ لَها

وَفي سَفائِنَ كَالعالي مِنَ الأطُمِ

وَفي سَفائِنَ كَالعالي مِنَ الأطُمِ

He came to her aid with armies without equal,

He aided it with armies beyond compare

And aboard ships like towering fortresses.

In ships towering like peaks

وَصَدَّهُ عَن مُناهُ في مُصادَمةٍ

وَصَدَّهُ عَن مُناهُ في مُصادَمةٍ

لَيثُ الشّرى مُصطَفى العَلياءِ وَالكَرمِ

لَيثُ الشّرى مُصطَفى العَلياءِ وَالكَرمِ

And he was turned back from his aims in a clash

He repelled the enemy in ferocious combat

By the lion of al-Shara, Mustafa of high honor and generosity.

Mustafa, noble and generous lion of war

الفارِسُ الفَحلُ مَن لو سَلّ باترَهُ

الفارِسُ الفَحلُ مَن لو سَلّ باترَهُ

خَلّى لُيوثَ الوغى لَحماً على وضَمِ

خَلّى لُيوثَ الوغى لَحماً على وضَمِ

The stalwart horseman, who, were he to draw his cleaving blade,

The champion warrior, if he drew his sword

Would leave the lions of battle as meat upon a butcher's board.

He would leave the beasts of war as shreds of flesh

بازي الحروبِ لَهُ الأَسيافُ أَجنِحَةٌ

بازي الحروبِ لَهُ الأَسيافُ أَجنِحَةٌ

إِن مَدَّها خِلتَ أسْدَ الحربِ كالرَّخَمِ

إِن مَدَّها خِلتَ أسْدَ الحربِ كالرَّخَمِ

The hawk of war, whose swords are wings—

Master of battles, his swords are wings

If he spread them, you would take the lions of war for vultures.

When outstretched, rivals cower like crawling insects

مَن بِالرّصاصِ كَوى الأعدا ونقَّطَهم

مَن بِالرّصاصِ كَوى الأعدا ونقَّطَهم

فَلَم يَدَعْ حَرفَ جِسمٍ غير منعجمِ

فَلَم يَدَعْ حَرفَ جِسمٍ غير منعجمِ

He who seared his foes with bullets and dotted them,

He burned the foe with lead and riddled them

And left no letter of a body undotted.

Leaving no body part free of holes

مَنِ اِستَمدَّ مِنَ الجَزّارِ مُنتَصِراً

مَنِ اِستَمدَّ مِنَ الجَزّارِ مُنتَصِراً

فَمَدّهُ مدّ ذي القُربى وذي الرّحِمِ

فَمَدّهُ مدّ ذي القُربى وذي الرّحِمِ

He who sought al-Jazzar's aid to win victory,

He gained victory with aid from the butcher

So he supported him as a close kinsman and blood relation would.

Supporting him like a relative and friend

وَمُذ أَتَته مِنَ الجَزّارِ خِلعتهُ

وَمُذ أَتَته مِنَ الجَزّارِ خِلعتهُ

فَرَّ العدوُّ بِداجي اللّيلِ والظّلَمِ

فَرَّ العدوُّ بِداجي اللّيلِ والظّلَمِ

And when his robe of honor came to him from al-Jazzar,

Since the robe of honor reached him from the butcher

The enemy fled in the dark of night and its gloom.

The enemy fled in the darkness of night

إِنّي أُهنّيهِ إِذ عَنهُ نَأت نِقَمٌ

إِنّي أُهنّيهِ إِذ عَنهُ نَأت نِقَمٌ

بِما أُنيلَ مِنَ الآلاءِ والنعَمِ

بِما أُنيلَ مِنَ الآلاءِ والنعَمِ

Indeed I congratulate him, now that calamities have withdrawn from him,

I congratulate him as vengeance is lifted

On the bounties and blessings he has been granted.

Due to the blessings and favors I attain

وَإِنّني أَرتَجي تَوفيقَهُ أَبَداً

وَإِنّني أَرتَجي تَوفيقَهُ أَبَداً

في حُسنِ سابِقَةٍ مَع حُسن مختتمِ

في حُسنِ سابِقَةٍ مَع حُسن مختتمِ

And I always hope for his success,

And I pray he is always granted success

In a good beginning together with a good ending.

Between excellent beginning and excellent end
