اِلتَقى زاد العارفِ المُستقيمِ

اِلتَقى زاد العارفِ المُستقيمِ

وَالرّضا بِالقَضاءِ شَأنُ الحليمِ

وَالرّضا بِالقَضاءِ شَأنُ الحليمِ

Piety is the provision of the upright knower.

The provision of the righteous knower merged,

And contentment with the divine decree is the mark of the forbearing.

And acceptance of destiny is the way of the forbearing.

فَعَلامَ القصورُ عَنْ دَرْكِ نَفعٍ

فَعَلامَ القصورُ عَنْ دَرْكِ نَفعٍ

وَالمَنايا تَغتالُ كُلَّ عَظيمِ

وَالمَنايا تَغتالُ كُلَّ عَظيمِ

Why, then, fall short of attaining benefit,

So why the shortcoming in attaining benefit,

while death snatches away every great man?

And death lies in wait for every great one.

ها عليُّ اِبن الوزيرِ الَّذي قَد

ها عليُّ اِبن الوزيرِ الَّذي قَد

مَلكَ الشَّامَ بِالطَّريقِ القَويمِ

مَلكَ الشَّامَ بِالطَّريقِ القَويمِ

Behold Ali, son of the vizier, who had

Oh Ali, son of the minister who

ruled al-Sham along the upright path.

Ruled Syria in the straight path.

أَخذَته يَدُ القضاءِ شَهيداً

أَخذَته يَدُ القضاءِ شَهيداً

فَأَجابَ القَضاءُ بِالتسليمِ

فَأَجابَ القَضاءُ بِالتسليمِ

The hand of fate took him as a martyr,

The hand of fate took him as a martyr,

so he answered fate with submission.

So he responded to fate with resignation.

وَلَقد قُلت لِلرّضا أَينَ تَبغي

وَلَقد قُلت لِلرّضا أَينَ تَبغي

مُذْ تَبدّى يَمُرّ مِثلَ النَّسيمِ

مُذْ تَبدّى يَمُرّ مِثلَ النَّسيمِ

And indeed I said to Contentment, 'Where are you bound?'

And I had said to acceptance, where do you wish

when he appeared, passing like the breeze.

Since you began, passing like a soft breeze.

قالَ أَرِّخ أَروم قَبرَ عليٍّ

قالَ أَرِّخ أَروم قَبرَ عليٍّ

كَرَّم اللَّهُ وَجهَه بِالنَّعيمِ

كَرَّم اللَّهُ وَجهَه بِالنَّعيمِ

He said, 'Record the date: I seek Ali's grave.'

It said, record the date of Ali's grave,

May God honor his face with bliss.
