في وَجهِهِ شَرفُ الجَمالِ قَدِ اِعتَلى
فَبَداthen appeared العِذارُthe cheek-down فَزادَand increased فيهِin it سناءَsplendor
فَبَدا العِذارُ فَزادَ فيهِ سناءَ
On his face, Beauty’s glory has risen high;
On his face, beauty’s glory has risen high.
Then his first beard-growth along the cheeks appeared, adding splendor to his face.
Then cheek-down appeared, adding to its splendor.
فَكَأنّماso as though خافَfeared الجمالbeauty ضياعهُits loss
فَكَأنّما خافَ الجمال ضياعهُ
فَلَهُso for itself أَقامَset up عَلامةًa marker خَضراءَgreen
فَلَهُ أَقامَ عَلامةً خَضراءَ
As though Beauty feared losing him,
As though beauty feared being lost,
and so, for him, raised its own green sign.
So it set up a green marker for itself.
