يا حُسنَها مِن بَرَكةٍ مَوضوعَةٍ

يا حُسنَها مِن بَرَكةٍ مَوضوعَةٍ

بِحِكمَةٍ وَالحسنُ فيها قَد سَما

بِحِكمَةٍ وَالحسنُ فيها قَد سَما

Oh, how lovely—a basin set in place,

Oh, how beautiful it is—a pool set in place

With wisdom wrought, where beauty has risen high;

With wisdom, and beauty within it has soared!

حَيثُ سُليمانُ الوزيرُ ذو النّدى

حَيثُ سُليمانُ الوزيرُ ذو النّدى

قَد شَادَها مِن مالِهِ وَأَحكَما

قَد شَادَها مِن مالِهِ وَأَحكَما

Here Sulayman the vizier, the generous one,

For Sulayman, the vizier, a man of bounty,

Built it from his own wealth and made it masterfully;

Has built it from his own wealth and made it sound.

وَماؤُها مِن حُسنِها لَمّا حَلا

وَماؤُها مِن حُسنِها لَمّا حَلا

أَرَّخته وَطيبُها يَروي الظّما

أَرَّخته وَطيبُها يَروي الظّما

And when its water, through its beauty, became sweet,

And when its water grew sweet through its beauty,

I gave it this date: “Its sweetness quenches thirst.”
