أَيَلا لائِمي جَهلاً عَلى العِشقِ وَالهَوى

أَيَلا لائِمي جَهلاً عَلى العِشقِ وَالهَوى

وَصَومي عَنِ السّلوى بِنصّ وَتَعريضِ

وَصَومي عَنِ السّلوى بِنصّ وَتَعريضِ

O you who ignorantly reproach me for love and passion,

Oh blamer of me for ignorance of love and passion

And for my fasting from solace, in plain words and by insinuation:

And my fasting from joy with hint and allusion

فَأَيّامُه بِيضٌ أَدَمتُ صِيامَها

فَأَيّامُه بِيضٌ أَدَمتُ صِيامَها

فَصُمتُ عَنِ السّلوى بِأَيّامِهِ البيضِ

فَصُمتُ عَنِ السّلوى بِأَيّامِهِ البيضِ

For its days are white; I have kept up fasting through them,

For its days are white, I perpetuated their fasting

So I fasted from solace during its white days.

So I was silent of joy during its white days
