يا بِركَةً يدُ النّظام أَتقنَت

يا بِركَةً يدُ النّظام أَتقنَت

تَنظيمَها وَأَحسنَت تَضميخَها

تَنظيمَها وَأَحسنَت تَضميخَها

O pool, the hand of order has perfected

Oh Blessed be the hand of order that

its arrangement and beautifully perfumed it.

Arranged it with skill and adorned it with care

قَد شادَها الشّهمُ سُلَيمان العُلى

قَد شادَها الشّهمُ سُلَيمان العُلى

حَتّى عَلَت مِنَ السّما مرّيخَها

حَتّى عَلَت مِنَ السّما مرّيخَها

The gallant Sulayman of lofty rank has built it,

Suleiman the Magnanimous built it on high

until it rose above Mars in the sky.

Till in the heavens it rivaled Mars,

وَحينَما رُمتُ بِنَظمي مَدحَها

وَحينَما رُمتُ بِنَظمي مَدحَها

قَد قيلَ أَرِّخ وَأَجِدْ تَأريخَها

قَد قيلَ أَرِّخ وَأَجِدْ تَأريخَها

And when I sought to praise it in my verse,

And when I sought in verse to sing its praise

I was told: 'Record its date, and perfect its chronogram.'

I was told: date it and relate its story fair
