O grave of the sun of eminence—therein, with the light of favor,
O Lahad, in it is the light of the Most High's pleasure
My merciful Lord and generous Master has shed light.
My Lord the Merciful and my Master the Generous have consented
صِرتَyou became الثريّاthe Pleiades لِبدرِfor the full moon of المَجدِglory مَنزلةًa station
صِرتَ الثريّا لِبدرِ المَجدِ مَنزلةً

You became the Pleiades, a station for the full moon of glory;
You became the wealth for the full moon of glory
So he settled there when he had risen at God's command.
So it rose when the command of God had stood up

The full moon of the vizierate, whose inner character was pure,
The full moon of ministry, whose inner self was good
Along with his fine conduct in times past and gone.
With the beauty of his past conduct that has passed and gone
وَالحُكمُand judgment للَّهِto God مَولاناour Master وَخالِقناand our Creator

قَضى بِأَنّ سُليمان الزّمان قَضى
And judgment belongs to God, our Master and our Creator;
And the judgment is for our Lord and Creator
He decreed that Sulayman of the age should pass away.
He decreed that Suleiman of the time has passed away
دَعاهُHe called him مَولاهُhis Master لِلفِردَوسِto Paradise يَسكُنُهاhe dwells in it

فَراحَso he departed يَرضىhe is content بهاwith it عَنin place of دارِهhis abode عِوَضاas a substitute
فَراحَ يَرضى بها عَن دارِه عِوَضا
His Master called him to Paradise, to dwell in it;
His Master called him to Paradise to dwell in it
So he departed, content with it as a substitute for his abode.
So he was happy with it instead of his house
وَمُذand since دَعاهُHe called him لَهاto it فَضلاًas a grace بِرَحمَتِهِthrough His mercy

وَأرّخوه بِها قَد عمّه وَرضا
And since He called him to it, as a grace, through His mercy—
And since He called him to it out of His bounty
And record his date: 'He has enfolded him in it and in favor'—
They recorded him in it, it has covered him and pleased him

May His good pleasure never cease pouring down upon him,
Upon him is His good pleasure, it does not cease to incline toward him
And you, O his grave, have never ceased to be a target for favor.
And to consent, O Lahad, has always been its aim
