بِروحيwith my soul as ransom عِذارُcheek-down الحِبِّof the beloved دارَcircled بِوَجهِهِaround his face
فَخِلتُso I thought ظَلامَdarkness اللّيلِof the night قَدalready دارَcircled بالضحِّaround the sunlight
My soul be ransom for the beloved’s cheek-down encircling his face;
So I thought night’s darkness had encircled the sunlight.
فَقَدfor indeed قامَstood بَينَbetween الوجهِthe face وَالجيدِand the neck حاجزاًas a barrier
لِيَفرقto separate بَينَbetween الشّمسِthe sun ياO صاحِfriend والصبحِand the dawn
For it stood as a barrier between his face and neck,
To separate, O friend, the sun from the dawn.
