وَلا يَفتَخِرْ مَن قَد خَلا مِن مَكارِمٍ

وَلا يَفتَخِرْ مَن قَد خَلا مِن مَكارِمٍ

بِمَعروفِ آباءٍ وأصْلٍ عليِّ

بِمَعروفِ آباءٍ وأصْلٍ عليِّ

Let no one devoid of noble virtues boast

Let no man glory in virtues that are not his own,

of his forefathers’ good deeds and lofty lineage;

In the goodness of forefathers or ancient line.

فَإِنَّ اِفتِخارَ المَرءِ في فعلِ غَيرِهِ

فَإِنَّ اِفتِخارَ المَرءِ في فعلِ غَيرِهِ

يَعدّونَهُ مِثلَ اِفتِخارِ الخصيِّ

يَعدّونَهُ مِثلَ اِفتِخارِ الخصيِّ

for a man’s boasting of another’s deeds

For the merit in deeds that another has done,

is deemed like the boasting of a eunuch.

Is like boasting of manhood by an eunuch assigned.
