Indeed, his eye held kohl upon kohl;
His eyes contained kohl upon kohl,
so he said, when he had taken the lovers captive with his eyes:
So when he enslaved lovers with a glance, he said:
سَوادُthe blackness أَعيُنِهمtheir eyes كَحليmy kohl اِكتَحَلتI applied kohl بِهِwith it

“The blackness of their eyes is my kohl; I have lined my eyes with it,
The blackness of their eyes is my kohl with which I adorned myself,
and from their hearts, their innermost cores are like jewels.”
And the pieces of their hearts are my kohl.
