لَقَدِindeed اِكتَسىhe donned زُرقَblue الثِيابِthe garments فَلَمso did not يَبِنْappear
لَقَدِ اِكتَسى زُرقَ الثِيابِ فَلَم يَبِنْ
إِلّاexcept مُحيّاهُhis face لِطَرْفِto the eye of الرائيthe beholder
إِلّا مُحيّاهُ لِطَرْفِ الرائي
Indeed, he donned blue garments, and nothing was visible
He has clothed himself in the blueness of garments, yet nothing shows
Except his face to the beholder’s eye.
Except his face to the beholder's eye;
فَكَأنّهُso he was like قرصُthe disk of الغَزالَةِthe sun أَسفَرتshone forth
فَكَأنّهُ قرصُ الغَزالَةِ أَسفَرت
وَقتَat the time of الضّحىmidmorning بِسَمائِهاin its sky الزّرقاءِblue
وَقتَ الضّحى بِسَمائِها الزّرقاءِ
So he was like the sun’s disk as it shone forth
As though the gazelle's neck-ring shed its lustre,
At midmorning in its blue sky.
When the dawn gleams fair with its azure light.
