بِضَوْءِby the light of البَدْرِthe full moon قدْindeed أبْصَرْتُI beheld ظَبْياًa gazelle
بِضَوْءِ البَدْرِ قدْ أبْصَرْتُ ظَبْياً
أضاءَhe shone بنورِwith the light of وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek عَلَيْهِupon it
أضاءَ بنورِ وَجْنَتِهِ عَلَيْهِ
In the full moon's light, I beheld a gazelle,
By the light of the moon I saw a gazelle
Who shone upon it with the radiance of his cheek.
Whose cheek outshone the rays that on it fell.
فقُلتُso I said البَدرُthe full moon مُقتَرِنٌpaired ببَدْرٍwith a full moon
فقُلتُ البَدرُ مُقتَرِنٌ ببَدْرٍ
وشِبهُand the likeness of الشّيءِthe thing مُنجَذِبٌdrawn إلَيْهِto it
وشِبهُ الشّيءِ مُنجَذِبٌ إلَيْهِ
So I said, "A full moon is paired with a full moon,
I cried, "The moon's conjoined with a likeness fair!"
And a thing's likeness is drawn to it."
For like must to its like be drawn, that's plain to tell.
