بِروحِيَI would ransom with my soul فيamid وَردِthe roses of خَدَّيهِhis two cheeks خالa mole
بِروحِيَ في وَردِ خَدَّيهِ خال
أَدمْتُI sustained لَهُupon it اللّحظthe gaze بِالمُقلَتينِwith both eyes
أَدمْتُ لَهُ اللّحظ بِالمُقلَتينِ
I would give my soul for a mole amid the roses of his cheeks.
I kept my gaze fixed upon it with both eyes.
وَقَدand indeed قالَhe said ليto me فيon خُدوديَmy cheeks وردroses
وَقَد قالَ لي في خُدوديَ ورد
فَقُلتso I said صَدقتَyou spoke truly وَحبّةُand the pupil of عَينيmy eye
فَقُلت صَدقتَ وَحبّةُ عَيني
And he said to me, “There are roses on my cheeks.”
So I said, “True—and the pupil of my eye as well.”
