وَقَفتI stood تَمُرُّpass by بِيَby me الغيدُthe slender beauties يَوماًone day
وَقَفت تَمُرُّ بِيَ الغيدُ يَوماً
فَتَحلوand they look lovely بِعَينِيَto my eye حينَwhen تَمُرُّthey pass
فَتَحلو بِعَينِيَ حينَ تَمُرُّ
I stood one day as graceful maidens passed me by;
One day I stood as the slender beauties passed me by.
they grow lovely in my eyes whenever they pass.
And they looked lovely to my eye as they passed.
وَمِنهُنّand among them أَبصَرتُI saw أَربَعَةًfour
وَمِنهُنّ أَبصَرتُ أَربَعَةً
لَهاfor them الصّدرُthe breast قَلبٌa heart لَهاfor them القَلبُthe heart صَدرُa breast
لَها الصّدرُ قَلبٌ لَها القَلبُ صَدرُ
Among them I beheld four,
And among them I saw four:
each one’s breast a heart, each one’s heart a breast.
Their breast is a heart; their heart is a breast.
